The types of hijab material can affect the way you style it and the level of comfort it gives to the wearer. Some fabrics last longer than others. Some hijab materials are easy to style while others may not be as easy.

1. Cotton Hijab

Cotton hijab material is made from the natural fibers of cotton plants. They are also hypoallergenic and good for sensitive skin. The fabric is also comfortable and breathable. Cotton hijab is great for the warm season as it is airy, lightweight, and odor-free. Depending on the level of the opaqueness, some cotton hijab is sheer while some are not. 

Wear cotton under scarfs/inner caps with cotton hijab to secure it throughout the day. You can also wear cotton hijab with other fabrics of under scarf but use pins to secure it properly. 

How to care: Hand wash or machine wash with cool or warm water. Avoid hot water as it can shrink the fabric. 

2. Chiffon Hijab

Chiffon material is lightweight and slightly sheer. This hijab material can be made from polyester, silk or cotton. It is easy to style as the fabric is not stiff and flowy. Chiffon hijab is the perfect hijab to wear to achieve elegant and sophisticated look. They are also a great hijab material during warm weather.

Wear chifon hijab with an under scarf or inner cap and secure it with pins. You may need to wear a turtle neck top or ninja hijab inner cap to cover your neck as chiffon hijab tends to be sheer. 

How to care: Hand wash or machine wash on gentle mode with cool or warm water. Use mild detergent.

3. Satin Hijab

Satin can be made from silk, polyester or rayon. It has two different surface where one is duller and matte and one is shiny and lustrous. Satin is also wrinkle resistant. Satin hijab adds elegance into the overall look. It looks luxurious and glamorous. 

Be careful when using pins to secure your satin hijab. It could damage the fabric. Other alternative to prevent damage is you can use bobby pins and pin it together with your inner cap around your chin or neck area. 

How to care: Hand wash or machine wash with delicate mode on. Use cold water and gentle detergent. Do not wring or twist to avoid it losing its shape.

4. Silk Hijab

Silk is a natural and strong fibre. It has a great durability and it is famous for its luxurious feel and look. Silk is breathable and great for all climate. It is also wrinkle resistant and dry fast. Silk is also hypoallergenic and great for sensitive skin.

To keep silk hijab stay elegant and sophisticated, you can use bobby pins to secure the hijab to avoid damage on the fabric. 

How to care: Avoid alcohol based products on silk fabric. Hand wash silk in cold water with gentle detergent. 

5. Viscose Hijab

Viscose is also known as rayon is an artificial silk. Its characteristic is similar to silk. It is lightweight and gives a beautiful drape when you wear it. Viscose hijab gives the luxurious and lustrous look. The viscose material is also great at absorbing sweats. You can stay cool when wearing viscose hijab.

Viscose hijab is easy to style as it is lightweight. You can use pins to secure the hijab with the inner cap.

How to care: Hand wash using cold or lukewarm water. Avoid machine wash using hot water to prevent shrinkage. 

6. Jersey Hijab

Jersey is a soft, stretchable and knitted fabric. It can be made from wool, cotton or synthetic fibres. Jersey hijab is usually opaque and can covers your head properly. The material is also soft and comfortable to wear. Jersey is highly absorbent and breathable. Jersey hijab is also wrinkle resistant. It require little to no ironing. 

Jersey hijab is easy to style. You can wear it without pins and it is secure. It stays at one place for a long time. You can also wear jersey hijab without an inner cap. 

How to care: Hand wash or machine wash on gentle mode using cold water. 

7. Georgette Hijab

Georgette material is a crepe fabric that is made of silk or synthetic fibres like viscose and polyester. The fabric is semi sheer and bouncy. Georgette hijab is lightweight and breathable. It is comfortable to wear and has a nice drape. The fabric has pebbly texture and grainy feel. It is also has dull finished look. 

Georgette hijab gives of elegant and classic look. You can wear it to formal events to add glamorous and classy vibe into your overall look. 

How to care: Hand wash with cold water using mild detergent.

The best types of hijab material for hair is silk. Other cheaper alternatives would be satin and cotton. They are soft and gentle on the hair. The fabrics are great for sensitive skin. They keep your hair and scalp healthy. Silk has less friction on hair which helps make the hair stay smooth.

Jersey hijab is the best types of hijab material that does not slip. You can wear it without any pins and it would stay at the same place the whole day. Jersey hijab is also stretchable and easy to wear and style.

Lightweight and breathable hijab material is the best for summer. Cotton, silk, jersey and chiffon are great for summer. They are comfortable to wear and keep you stay cool during the day. Avoid synthetic hijab fabric as it is hot and not comfortable to wear.
